What Grows out of Death

It seems that Easter—a reworked pagan holiday celebrating the advent of spring, and thus, symbolically, about birth and growing, and so also about rebirth and rising from the dead, as if the dead, not death, were something to rise from—seems like to remember what would have been one of the greatest pwoermds of all times, if it were only isolated as a single word instead of buried within the riptide of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake: cropse.

The Wake is filled with thousands of words that could be great pwoermds, so maybe I should collect the best of these into a book sometime and use it to show the power of pwoermds and how they can stand well on their own. Yet one of the best remains "cropse," which is a reworking of "corpse" into "crops," a reworking of death into growing, and clearly an Easter poem, which I celebrate with this brief essay, headed by a faux-liturgical text that takes us through all the spellings "resurrection" has had in English.

Numbers Rise

The number of folks I know working on International Pwoermd Writing Month IV has risen to 28, a number that includes not only my wife but also my first cousin once removed, Paul Wittenberg, who is still a youngster and inventing words unintentionally. Luckily, his mother is saving one good one for us each day. And Paul Siegel, I discovered, is on board. A good crowd from all over, and I can barely keep up watching what people are doing.

I have just confirmed today that Mike Busam did, indeed, start working on InterNaPwoWriMo yesterday. His work will show up at his blog, "Everybody Funny." He is the 25th of us, a baker's two dozen.

International Pwoermd Writing Month now has 24 formal participants and a few people who seem to be participating with a little less daily determination, so those are good numbers. Some great works already.

InterNaPwoWriMo IV is about to Begin

As we wait the last few minutes before the beginning of InterNaPwoWriMo IV, let me report that we have as many participants this year as last year, so if one new participant appears, we'll have the biggest International Pwoermd Writing Month ever.

Also, if we count the Twitter hashtag (which we, unfortunately, cannot), then we'd've reached this high pinnacle of achievement.

Thus far, twelve of us have signed up for InterNaPwoWriMo, meaning I need at least eight more participants to make this the biggest annual celebration of pwoermds ever. Get involved. Tell you friends. Change the world.

Preparing for InterNaPwoWriMo IV
